Hi, I’m Lisa Hockaday—a breast cancer survivor living with follicular non-Hodgkin lymphoma, a writer, yoga teacher and community advocate.
I created Why Me? Why Not? to document the parts of cancer that do not fit neatly into medical appointments: the waiting, fear, decisions, recovery, unexpected humor and life that continues through it all. What began as a personal record became a way to connect with others affected by cancer and help them feel less alone.
My background in communications, design and community building shapes how I tell these stories. Today, my advocacy extends beyond the page. I am an Advanced Yoga for Cancer-certified instructor, the founder of Flow for the Fight, an active Susan G. Komen fundraiser and a Komen 3-Day participant. Through writing, teaching, fundraising and community events, I work to turn personal experience into connection, awareness and action.
The stories shared here reflect my personal experience and are not medical advice. Every diagnosis and treatment plan is different, and readers should discuss medical questions with qualified healthcare professionals.
